Today I’m going to show you how I transformed these terra cotta pots using paint to create a cast stone look.
These pots were at our house in Franklin and while they went great with The Old St. Louis Bricks, I wanted an up to date look for our new house which is painted white bricks.
These pots are old and they do have some damage on them. But I still like the shape and want to reuse what I have for now.
The first step was to paint them a solid coat of gray. I used the exterior paint that was used on our shutters.
After this coat of paint dried, the next step was to use another exterior paint. I chose to do white for the second step. I took an old soft paintbrush and started pouncing the paint on.
I would just get a little of the paint on the brush and pounced it all around the pot still letting some of the gray show through.
The pot on the right shows what it looked like after the white was applied. Keep in mind if you try this, your project will not look exactly the same as this one. In fact these two pots won’t look exactly the same as each other but thats ok!
I could have left it like that but because I have a white exterior I wanted to warm it up a little. I went to my paint closet and found this color just to give it a little more dimension. Its a grayish taupe color.
I used the same technique that I did with the white paint. In the picture below you can look to the left and see how this color just adds a bit more dimension and color.
The pot on the right has the added color. You can see the difference in the two pots here.
The finished product. I love this look!
Here they are on the front porch.
Let me know if you decide to give this process a try and if you have any questions. Happy painting!
