Recently I took a quick trip to Laurel, Mississippi with my friend Deb. We’ve been friends for over 36 years. We don’t get to see each other very often but when we do we just pick up where we left off.
We stayed at The Honeycomb Hideout listed on Airbnb. This picture is from their listing. It was super cozy, well stocked, very clean and just what we wanted.
Our first stop of the day was to the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, Mississippi’s first art museum. It was founded in 1923 in memory of Lauren Eastman Rogers. He was the only son and only grandson of two of the town’s founding families. Lauren died at the age of 23 in 1921 just months after marrying Lelia Hodson Rogers. The museum is in the building that was originally being constructed to be Lauren and Lelia’s private residence. I don’t have pictures of the inside but it’s a beautiful and immaculate Art Gallery. A must see if you go!
Then on to Laurel Mercantile. It’s owned by Ben and Erin Napier of the TV show “Home Town”. We loved this shop! You can definitely see Erin’s touch throughout the shop. We found so many great gift ideas, it was organized and well arranged. So creative and beautiful!
Then on to our next stop. The Scotsman General store. It was like walking into the past. We loved the way it was set up to feel like you are in an old fashioned general store. Ben’s workshop is connected to the store. It’s not open to the public, but it can be viewed through a large window in the store.
The downtown area is beautiful with many shops and restaurants. Here are just some of the pictures we took.
Laurel is spread out so I would suggest a car to explore. You’ll want to ride down 6th Avenue and other streets to see the beautiful historic homes.
There were painted murals all around the town. Here are the ones we saw!
Laurel has many beautiful churches!
Our trip was short and sweet but we enjoyed being together, catching up and exploring Laurel!
