My client Meagan had this table. She picked up these chairs from a flea market and wanted them all painted to look like a set.
So I sent her some pictures from Pinterest for inspiration. This is the picture she chose.
Here are the steps I took to achieve this look.
#1. Clean the furniture. I used Dixie Bell White Lightning Cleaner. You can find all Dixie Bell products at Roosters in Lafayette, The French Door in Franklin or order online: Dixie Bell White Lightning
#2 I painted the table first with Dixie Bell Fluff. It’s a White white and that’s what Meagan wanted. I painted two coats on the table first.
After the second coat of paint dried, I noticed yellow coming through on the base of the table. Tannins exist in many woods, and can bleed through to the surface, leaving a yellowish-brown stain on the surface. These stains are more noticeable on lighter paint colors. So I ran to the closest paint store to where I lived and purchased Zinsser Shellac based white primer.
#3 I painted two coats of that and prayed it would work. It did!
I was running low on the Dixie Bell Fluff and decided to use leftover paint I had in my paint closet. I used Sherwin Williams Extra White on the base of the table and the four chairs. It’s a pure bright white.
Now to achieve the look I wanted for the top of the table:
#4 I grabbed a chip brush and dipped it in some Gray Milk paint and wiped most of it off on a paper towel. I also had a spray bottle with water handy. I sprayed the sections I would paint over first just a little. You don’t want it to be soaking wet.
#5 I worked in sections going from one side to the other. Going with the grain. Here are some of the progress pics.
#6 I then repeated Step #5 with the Dixie Bell Fluff chalk type paint.
I just kept doing it until I was close to my inspiration picture.
Here is the finished product.
I’m so happy we’re settled in the new house and I can get back to painting!
