Avery graduated High School this past May. I asked her where she wanted to go for her Senior Trip. She said Greece. I said no way, her dad said why don’t you take her. So it was on. Also on the trip with us was our oldest daughter, Megan, our daughter in law Shani and Megan’s future sister in law, Lindy. Talk about a girl’s trip of a lifetime.
We flew United from New Orleans to Newark, New Jersey. While waiting for our flight out of New Orleans, it was delayed 3 hours then ultimately cancelled due to mechanical issues. Because we were flying international and would have missed out connecting flights, our flights had to be rescheduled. It all worked out. We were supposed to land in Mykonos Tuesday morning, we missed the first day but got there that night. Long flights. It took us almost 32 hours to get there. We got to the hotel, they took us to our room which was at the top of the place, approximately 209 steps up. No elevator. But so so worth it.
I decided to book Mykonos View Hotel and we were not disappointed. We had a view of the Aegean Sea and were walking distance from The Old Port and Mykonos Town. They answered every email I sent with questions andwere so kind and accommodating
This was the view from our room that night.
We were so excited the next morning and couldn’t wait to explore Mykonos. This is our room from the outside. Its the one on the top right.
It was so clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed and plenty of room for the 5 of us.
This was our view in the morning.
We had breakfast every morning. (It was included with our room) We ate a good breakfast, snacked during the day and ate something good for dinner.
Here are a couple of pictures of the hotel restaurant. We ate there the first night in.
We explored Mykonos Town. We tried to cover it all since we only had one day to see it. We have close to a million pictures (exaggerating) so many to choose from, I could not put them all here. Mykonos Town is a maze of tiny streets and whitewashed businesses, houses and churches.
We had heard before we went that there were cats everywhere in Greece. It’s true we saw them everywhere. But they didn’t bother us.
To say I was in heaven would be an understatement.
The iconic Windmills. From as early as the 16th century, the Windmills are one of the most recognized landmarks of Mykonos.
Up by the Windmills you have the perfect view of Little Venice. It’s a district located at the sea, famous for its picturesque medieval two and three story houses, which stand like a wall above the sea with their colorful wooden balconies.
Does Avery look like she is enjoying her Senior Trip?
I would say we all enjoyed Avery’s Senior Trip.
I just could not believe we were there.
That night we ate at Roca. It’s located at the old port and walking distance from Mykonos town. We had a wonderful panoramic view to Mykonos town, old port, Delos island and to a beautiful sunset.
When we walked through the outside area there were Greek dancers. It was fun to watch.
We walked the streets of Mykonos town one more time.
The next day the girls wanted to do the beaches. I chose to take a private tour of the island. The hotel staff set it up for me. I was picked up and dropped off at the hotel. The driver took me all over the island. I’m so glad I did it. I got some amazing shots.
That night we decided to order room service and have it delivered to the pool.
Look at that sunset. Pictures just don’t do justice. It was breathtaking.
We wanted to get a good nights sleep because we had to get up early the next morning to catch the Ferry to Santorini.
Will share about that adventure in the next blog post.
Stay tuned!
