Can you believe it’s been since December that I posted here? My Mom was in and out of the hospital in December and January so I was with her a lot of that time.
Not much happened in February except that Avery was a maid for the Sucrose Mardi Gras Ball so I had to do a few things with her to get ready for that. Then at the end of February my sisters, sister in law and I took Mom and Dad on a little getaway to Ocean Springs for a long weekend.
It was so nice to get away.
Then comes March and the chaos started. We were told to stay home. Not to go out. When you had to go out, to stay 6 feet apart. To sanitize everything you touch. Appointments were cancelled. Life has just seemed to slow way down. Things are different now and we don’t know how long this is going to last. My prayers go out daily to those who have lost their jobs and businesses. To those who work with the public and who have a chance of catching it. I pray for and am so grateful for all the medical workers who have to work tirelessly to keep up with all of the sick and dying. I’ve been trying to stay positive. I rarely watch the news, try to stay busy with creative projects, facetime with family/friends, and most of all have quiet time with God.
In February I decided to start a garden. Bryant was on board. It would get me outside more and he is always up for a new project. We have pretty much have a blank slate so I could have placed it anywhere. I decided to put it all to the left of the house in front of the woods. I knew I wanted a Greenhouse but didn’t want to spend a fortune on it, number 1 because we have hurricanes here every once in a while and it may get damaged and number 2, I want to make sure that this was not something that I would soon become tired and bored of. I have to say so far I am enjoying the process.
So this is the area that we started with.
Bryant built 3 raised bed boxes and used his tractor to bring them to this side of the property.
Next I chose a greenhouse. It was a kit, had great reviews and was not too complicated to put together. After lots of research I chose the Monticello 8 Ft. W x 12 Ft. D Greenhouse. You can get it on Amazon. We got it in silver but I think it’s out of the stock. They do have it in Black and that one looks really good.
It’s coming together.
At this point I needed to order some supplies. Here are some of the things I ordered. Thank goodness for Amazon.
If you are interested in starting a garden you might want these things too.
The Freesail Clog perfect for walking in the dirt and mud.
Bone and Blood Meal for fertilizing plants
Let me warn you. I’m winging this. Not really sure what I’m doing but I’m going for it.
So in this bed I planted two Swiss Chard plants, one Mustard Green Plant and the Aloe Vera Plant.
In this box I planted 2 cucumber plants, 2 tomato plants, a cantaloupe plant, a watermelon plant, a red pepper plant, a yellow pepper plant, 2 yellow squash plants and 2 zucchini plants. Little did I know how big some of these plants would get.
I have two pots in front of where the greenhouse will be and I planted a strawberry plant in each of them.
So now we’ll see how this goes. Need to shop for more plants. I’m open to any gardening advice you may have for me and also if you’re a beginner and have questions leave them in the comment section.
I’m so glad I decided to start this back in February before things got crazy around here. Wish me luck!
